The past decade or so has seen a major influx of superhero films. These major studio movies star the highest-paid actors in the world, and they typically outperform any other movies released. But the superhero film that changed everything was Superman, released in December of 1978. It was the first foray into the world of comic-book superheroes on the big screen, and it was the first time that a major studio was willing to provide the big bucks to produce such a film. Whether you are a Superman fan or not, most Americans are probably familiar with Superman’s main weakness: kryptonite.
